The interesting thing about having a name like "Gary Gumuchian" is that in all likelihood if you ever met Gary Gumuchian, you met me. I have worked in a lot of different jobs and places over the years, so if you were bored and googling people (something which no one ever does...) that you used to know, met on a mission trip, and you found this site, and you are wondering if I am the same Gary Gumuchian, I probably am. But given my last name, there is a reasonable chance you misspelled my name. If you did, and you still got here, bravo to YOU!
While I was baptized Armenian Apostolic, I was raised United Methodist. I grew up in a wonderful church with wonderful sunday school teachers and youth leaders. I took a break from church in my 20's. I moved to Littleton in 2002 and started attending the Congregational Church of Littleton. I joined in 2003, becoming very involved in the Christian Education Program.
From July 15, 2012 through August 31, 2018 I served the Congregational Church of Littleton as the professional Director of Christian Education. During this time I thanked God (most days) for the opportunity to serve God and church in this way. It was a job that suited me as I had tremendous freedom to utilize my creativity, education and odd assortment of skills to help people who come into the church develop and explore their faith. I worked with children, youth and adults. On certain occasions I was called upon to lead special worship services. I left this position for two reasons. First, the Committee on Ministry for the Central Association asked me to get experience pastoring in a church not my own. Second, I had outgrown the job and knew God was calling me to take on even more.
I have been a single parent since my wife passed away. My children bring me much joy. They do not worry about conforming to societies expectations and are generally happy with who they are and who they are growing to be. They participate in the life of their home church and do not often accompany me on Sunday mornings, though my daughter has been a substitute church musician (guitar) on occasion.
I am also a big believer in self study of religion or any other discipline of interest. As of late, I have been studying behavioral sciences, group dynamics, philosophy and storytelling.
My non religious non professional interests include collecting antique maps, painting miniature fantasy figures, a small comic book collection, playing board and card games, reading good novels, writing, and attending theater.
